The very fact that Facebook outsources its censorship to contractors underlines the precarity of a workforce that is considered both disposable in the short term and irrelevant in the long term. Ultimately Facebook wishes to replace this workforce with AI automation where possible, and then heteromate the remaining human work by enticing users of the platform to inform on each other with posts that don’t abide by the platforms implicit social norms or opaque moderation rules.
